More About Me

Shawn Bailey-Gates, Short Bio

Hi, my name is Shawn Bailey-Gates. I grew up in a real estate family in rural western Massachusetts while sharing my love of the outdoors with my brothers and sister. At an early age, I enjoyed working for local farmers in their blueberry fields and apple orchards where I learned first-hand the lessons of a strong work ethic. Seeking opportunity, our family moved to Cape Cod, Massachusetts where my mother continued her career in real estate and mortgage banking. After graduating Barnstable High school, I went a little north to attend Boston College as a biology major where I met my future wife, Tracy. During my senior year I became interested in the U.S. Navy and after graduation, I completed officer candidate school in Newport, RI. Tracy and I were soon married, and we settled in northern Rhode Island so I could make the commute to my newly commissioned ship home ported in Newport, RI. As one of the ship's newly minted engineering officers I quickly learned attention to detail and the value of working with crew members of varied backgrounds. I finished my time with the Navy as the regimental administrative officer for the Navy Seabees in Davisville, RI. As we raised our growing family, I worked in the emerging medical laser industry and eventually earned my MBA at Providence College. My wife Tracy became a high school science teacher and after watching my children grow up too fast, I completed my teaching degree and also became a high school science teacher quickly finding a position in northern Rhode Island. For over twenty-five years I found teaching to be a fulfilling career where I truly felt I could make a difference and give back to my community. With a slight push, our children eventually left the nest and Tracy and I were able to move back to Cape Cod. We have lived in the upper Cape community of Pocasset for the last ten plus years and up until recently, made the commute back to Rhode Island every day. Coming full circle, with a plan to transition from teaching to becoming a full-time realtor, I now feel I have the life experience to help both first and second home buyers find that perfect property. I enjoy the upper Cape region because it allows the ability to work remotely, make the drive off-cape when you must, and experience the best of what Cape Cod has to offer. When not working, I am usually found walking my dog in the early morning hours, kayaking with my wife in the bays and inlets of local waters, or working down the endless to-do list of home improvements and repairs.
